Seven twin-size charity quilts were delivered to Ozanam for
their teenage residents on Tuesday December 11, 2012 by Charity Quilt
Committee Grace Lighthizer and Connie Zwego. Five of these were begun in the
Mystery Quilt workshop earlier this year with Theresa Ward and Sharon
Lorfing using donated charity quilt fabrics. With Sharon’s guidance, we
enlarged their original planned throw size to twin size for this purpose.
One more Mystery/charity has been promised for future giving.
“ Since
it first opened its doors in 1948, Ozanam has helped more than 6,000
children get their lives back on track.
Located on a 96- acre campus in
south Kansas City, Ozanam provides a wide array of therapeutic options and a
dedicated staff of more than 150 professionals. Together, we can help
children and their families begin to put their lives back together.”

Currently there are about 20 girls and 57
boys between the ages of 12 and 18 living long-term at Ozanam. When they are
able to leave, they are allowed to take their quilt with them. Please
consider making a twin size quilt for a troubled teen (especially suitable
for boys) next year …. Cut & dedicate a few pieces of fabric to start one
for this purpose soon .... and begin your 2013 UFO list with it!

The 2010 Opportunity Quilt

was won by Kathi
LaFrance from Colorado. Here is what Kathi had to say:
" I am so honored to be
the person that won a one of a kind quilt design for your guilds 35Th
anniversary.
Your guilds beautiful quilt arrived a few
minutes ago!
OH MY! What a beautiful quilt! You can feel/see
the love that went into making this beautiful quilt! The applique
is stunning and the stars.. Oh My gosh! They are perfect! The long arm
quilting shows off the quilt! All the time and effort that went into
making this quilt shows! One very beautiful quilt!
My husband's first comment when he saw the quilt
was..."That is my quilt...so, you won it.. I claim it!"
I know that quilts are made to be used and
loved, but this quilt will hang in my sewing/quilting room! It will be an
inspiration for me...something to push me to make a quilt this exquisite. I
have only been quilting for 3 years...so, i have a ways to go to get to this
level...your quilt will encourage me!
I was sorry to hear that you will not have a
quilt show this year! I had planned to drive my daughter to Lawrence to see
her grandma...and make a side trip to see your show! I will add my name to
your newsletter mailing list and I will watch and see if you find another
venue for your shows!
Thank you again,"
