About our Guild

The Quilters Guild of Greater Kansas City was founded in 1975. Our mission is to promote, advance and stimulate the knowledge and appreciation of the quilting arts; and to conduct and support programs and services for the education of all interested persons in the skills and techniques of the quilting arts.

Monthly guild meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the First Lutheran Church, 6400 State Line Road, Mission Hills, KS 66208. At 9:00 a.m. we have a social hour. The program and meeting begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at noon. If on the day of our regularly scheduled meeting, KC public schools are closed due to inclement weather our guild meeting is automatically cancelled.

Membership is open to anyone interested in the quilting arts. Annual membership DUES are $20, payable July 1 of each year. Dues must be paid by the August meeting in order to be included in the Guild’s membership directory. Any person who becomes a new member after January 1 of each year shall pay $10 for the remainder of that fiscal year (through June 30).

The Guild's NEWSLETTER is sent to guild members before each monthly meeting. Members are encouraged to turn in articles of interest to the newsletter publisher for publication.

We will be celebrating our 35th Anniversary in 2010 in several ways. For the April Guild meeting on April 13, 2010, we have invited our former presidents to come and talk to the guild, along with Terry Thompson, one of the founding members. We have been able to find out about all the former presidents. Five presidents have passed away: Elaine House, Betty Dunlap, Norma Lowe, Jane Shank, and Anne Fink. The rest have been invited to come for the regular meeting. We are planning a catered lunch after the President’s speak at the April meeting. If you want to stay and talk with them and have lunch, the Board voted to have you pay half of the lunch fee. That is another birthday gift to you. We will start collecting that money in March. Also, we want to hang the Guild quilts at this meeting. I think we have 5 or more. There is an opportunity for those who want to make a challenge quilt due in March 2010. And finally, on Saturday, May 1, 2010, we will have an all day meeting with Roberta Horton and Mary Mashuta, two internationally known quilters and twin sisters. Mary Mashuta is giving a workshop on designing workspaces. They will also be teaching workshops the two days before the May 1 meeting.

There will be no regular May guild meeting.

We have reserved 300 seats for the May 1 all day meeting. From December through the February guild meeting on February 9, 2010, members of our guild, Quilters Guild of Greater Kansas City, are to register for their seat and lunch. The cost of the all day program for the current members is free, but the lunch will be $10.00. We still need to have you register even if there is no cost for the members in order to have enough seats for everyone. You need to fill in the reservation form that was in the December newsletter or on the website www.quiltguildofgkc.org. This will be your ticket to get into the meeting on Saturday, May 1. Otherwise we have no way of knowing who is coming and who is not. Be sure to turn it in by the February meeting.

After the February meeting, we will open up the registration for the May 1 program and the workshops to non-members. The cost to those who are not guild members is $10 for the program and $10 for the lunch. So in February, we need your reservations for the workshops and May 1 event; by March we need your challenge quilts and lunch money if you want to eat with the presidents; for April we will have the President’s visit and the two days of workshops with Mary Mashuta and Roberta Horton; in May we have the May 1 event, but no regular guild meeting in May.

We need to borrow as many portable quilt stands as we can for the April guild meeting and the May event. If you have one that we can borrow, please let Nancy Wakefield know. Also, be sure to label every piece of the stand with your name so that nothing gets lost.

Any questions call Nancy Wakefield at 816-858-3670 or email at nancywake65@hotmail.com.

Thanks,

35th Anniversary Committee
